Setting up the booth

Recently I have been very busy with setting up the booth. I never realized how much time it would take to do this, however once I have it set up the way I want it I hope that it takes less time to just keep it stocked. I just finished painting a bookcase that I am putting in my booth and both my children helped me do so. My business was actually named after my five-year-old daughter and she loves that she is part of the business. I love that I am able to use my small business to teach my children and to become closer to them. They love to help me paint, and my daughter loves to make tags for my items with my cricut machine. They also go with me to the shop while I bring more items in or change things around. Bringing them to the shop is not my favorite part of them "helping" me.

Here is a picture of my bookcase set up in my home waiting to be taken to the booth tomorrow morning. It was supposed to go today but life happened. Life is such a blessing even when it doesn't go your way. God always has a better plan then I do. :) Here are some close ups of my bookcase.

I love how God provides for us through this business as well as guides me. One time I went to a meeting for a new homeschool co-op that I wanted to join. When I got there I realized that I needed to make a payment that I forgot about. When I was sitting in the meeting worrying about where I was going to get the money from, an item in my Etsy shop sold for the exact amount I needed and my phone beeped to let me know about it like it does with each sale. At that moment I knew that God wanted me to join the co-op and we have all been very blessed by doing so.

This weekend I was once again amazed at how wonderful God is to us. I have started to run a bit low on inventory to take over to the shop since items have been selling faster than I expected :) and I knew I needed to restock, however I needed to spend the weekend with my family instead of going out shopping. God knew what I needed for the business, and he brought the items I needed right up to my front door. Almost. Read my last post if you haven't already. You can see the vintage goodies that God provided.

Don't you just love it when vintage comes to you?

This weekend I wasn't planning on "treasure hunting" at all. I was going to spend the weekend with my hubby and kids. That was until I walked out my front door and saw a sale. Sometimes I like living in the city, most of the time I don't.

So I grabbed my kids and walked over there without telling my husband. Thought I would look around for two seconds, see nothing, and then walk home. Thirty minutes later I was home. Home not just with one or two items. But a whole van load of vintage goodness!! Some items need to be painted and fixed up which my hubby can not understand, but other items are perfect the way they are. Some of my favorites are the vintage gumball machine, butter churn, and milk glass vase.

Switching Blogs

I have been working today on my new website! I should be painting, however I have found painting doesn't work so well while my two little ones are awake. :) My website address is www.madisonrosevintage.com. It used to point to my etsy shop, however now it points to my website. You can click on shop and it will give you info about my Etsy shop as well as my antique booth.

I am also considering switching my blog to tumblr. I have no experience with tumblr, however my blog postings will show up directly on my website if I use it. I am going to be experimenting tumbler to see if I want to switch over to it.

Pictures of my first booth!

I was unmotivated today, and my son was refusing to clean up today so I left him home with his grammy and took my daughter out for lunch and shopping! :) We first went to check on my antique booth. I just hung the backdrop on the back wall of my booth yesterday and I have been having nightmares about the backdrop falling and bringing the mirror down with it. Everything was still in place and I found out I sold two items today! My booth is no where near finished. I still need to add more backdrops when I find them, and bring in furniture pieces when my hubby is able to help me, but I couldn't help snapping some pictures this time. I only had my phone with me so the pictures are a bit grainy. Sorry 'bout that.

I did it. I did it. I really really did it!

I have resisted posting this picture for quite a while, but I just can't any longer! I have no good reason other than to add a picture to this post. It is one of my favorites of my sweet kiddos. We took it last year at a nearby museum that has this old tractor in the back.

I would have some photos for this post, however I keep forgetting to take them when I am at the antique booth fluffing it up. Yes! I finally got my booth set up at the antique mall. I am very excited about it, and I have been spending too much time either at the booth, looking for items to put in the booth, working on items to put in the booth, or dreaming about the booth.

Now it isn't exactly "finished" yet. I was baby sitting when I rented the booth so I had very little time that I could get to the booth while it was open. Then the first week I was not babysitting we went out of town. We are back now and I am working hard on it.

I have gotten quite a bit in the booth, and hung eyelet curtains on the back wall as a backdrop. I am now trying to finish up the furniture I am refinishing. I am also trying to figure out how to get it all to the booth. I think I need to buy a truck now that I have a booth.

I have averaged almost one sale a day without it being set up completely and during the slow period (I am told) so I am very hopeful that I will do well in my booth. The owner had some great things to say about my booth which is very encouraging!

Will take pictures soon. Can't wait to show it off! Now that I have that off my chest I better go read some more Sally Clarkson. Night y'all! :)

Dangerously Yummy Cajun Chicken Pasta

Cajun Chicken Pasta is my favorite pasta dish ever! However, to get the yummy flavor in this dish you have to use heavy whipping cream. No low fat version for me. I have tried to get a good flavor without the whipping cream and I have yet to succeed. I make this no more than once a year due to the fat content, so if you have a wonderful low fat version please send me the recipe! :)

Dangerously Yummy Cajun Chicken Pasta

box of penne pasta (whole wheat works well as it will be drenched in sauce)

3T butter

1T flour

1 pint of heavy whipping cream

1/2 cut (at least) of grated Parmesan cheese

1 lb chicken breast

Cajun seasoning (amount depending on how spicy you like it)

2 cans of diced tomatoes or fresh diced tomatoes

Cook and drain pasta according to package.

Melt butter in sauce pan over medium heat. Whisk in flour. Add heavy whipping cream and heat till boiling. Let it simmer to thicken a bit.

Take sauce off of heat and mix in cheese. Pour into pasta and mix well.

Cut chicken into bite sized pieces and cook in a skillet with a bit of butter. When the chicken is cooked put the tomatoes in the skillet for a minute to heat up.

Pour the chicken and tomatoes into the pasta and mix well.

Now you are free to add in Cajun seasoning. Just a little at a time and taste as you go. You might want to serve the kiddos some pasta first, and then add in the spice the way that you like.

New Things Happenin' Over at Madison Rose Vintage!

I am so bad! I started this blog and only posted once and that was almost a year ago! I apologize and hope that you all will keep following me. :)

I am a sahm who home schools and volunteers to do too many things at once. My fault entirely. It has proven to be difficult to have an online shop while raising and teaching my children. I have dreamed of opening an antique store the entire time I have bought and sold things online. I started before my 5 year old was even thought of. Soooo! I have decided that if I do not have much time to list my items on Etsy I should open a booth at an antique mall. Having a place to physically place my items for sale without having to do so much to get the items to where people are able to find and purchase them. I am very excited about this, and I hope that it does well enough for me to be able to keep shopping and pay my niece to come play with the kids while I shop... alone. Anything over that is just icing on the cake! :)

Having said that, of course I have been out shopping for my booth. My living room is a disaster! I have to choose my booth quickly and get my items in it so that I can clean up my house again. I have been dying to show y'all some of my most recent finds so I hope y'all enjoy. :)

These sweet little white leaf shaped snack plates are darling! There are two that look close to new and the other six have crazing which I prefer because it adds so much character.

Can you tell I have a thing for cherubs?

And globes! Love this globe on a stand. I think I am keeping it for our geography "corner" in our homeschool room i.e. our dining room.

This mirror goes really well with the desk and chair I purchased.

And so does this sweet breakfast in bed tray.

This crib is a beautiful shade of light blue which isn't showing up in this picture very well. It has wonderful details, and I think it would look lovely made into a bench. Anyone want to come teach me how to do that? :)
